A Weekend in the Beautiful Lake Como

Fresh off the train bright and early, I arrived in Lake Como just in time to soak up the waterfront views, relax in the sunshine, and visit the neighboring villages!

When I first arrived into Lake Como, I traveled in with friends I met in Milan, and we spent our day hiking to the Light House (and never actually making it to the light house), walking tours (and falling in love with the most beautiful city), taking a cooking class provided by my hostel Ostello Bello Lake Como (and making homemade gnocchi and tiramisu that was to die for), and even visiting Switzerland (even if just for an hour)!

Sweet friends to travel with!

It was a FULL day to say the least, and even though I was sad to see my friends leave, I was excited to have a day with myself visiting the neighboring villages of Bellagio and Varenna.

The next morning, I woke up and went for a run. Taking in each view with each step. This place is so lovely in every way. The weather is sunny and 75F with a consistent light breeze flowing into the city off of the water, the roads are cobble stone, and the architecture is so magical. You could say, Lake Como looks identical to a Walt Disney film.

Okay, fun fact of the day!

Did you know George Clooney has a summer home in Lake Como? And now we all know why!

After I finished my run, I peeped over to the ferry ticket counter and bought myself a day pass. Then,I went home to freshen up, so I could venture out.

The town of Bellagio

I hopped off of my ferry, walked up these cobble stone steps, and headed to the piazza! Bellagio is filled with cobble stone, cozy streets that lead up to the center square. So, needless to say, I got another great leg workout for the day!

After visiting the piazza, I headed over to Punta Spartivento which is a walkable point extending into the lake.

Then watched as the locals sped by on their boats! Bellagio is absolutely breathtaking with the waterfront views looking ahead to the Swiss Alps! I recommend taking the time to explore the area and find a spot in front of the water to take it all in.

The town of Varenna

After caching the next ferry, I quickly arrive to Varenna.

I walked this beautiful walkway filled with bright green plants and vibrant red flowers passing tourists holding hands after posing for the perfect water front picture.

When traveling around Lake Como, it is not uncommon to see locals and tourists both wearing their bathing suits under their clothing and taking an afternoon dip into the cool, fresh water. If I had packed mine, I would have joined!

I walked up to visit the piazza and admired its beauty.

And then, I found the most adorable spot for a late afternoon lunch / early dinner with a waterfront view and a plate full of fresh greens!

The perfect spot for people watching and soaking up the afternoon breeze. Early evening, I ventured back down to the ferry ports and headed back to Lake Como.

All in all, Lake Como was one of my most favorite spots! Do not miss all of its beauty and charm and come visit it for yourself!

Until next time, ciao friends!
